To Be (with your partner) or Not to Be

It appears that the "temptation" reward was not so tempting after all. Tala tribe members shied away from the offer thinking that there's no such thing as a free lunch in Survivor Philippines. So, Angeli and Jackie where the ones left to hear Richard's "special offer". Although the reward meant two individual immunity bracelets, the pair would have to split up with one going to the other tribe. And to totally scare off any possible chance of someone agreeing to this, if one is voted off, the other one also leaves the game.

Considering that Tala just won the immunity idol and materials for a better shelter and fire, the two weren't really going to just give up on a good thing. But Richard did gave them a few more moments to think about it as he presented the bracelets with one on each of his palms. Still, both decided that it wasn't the best deal at the time. One thinks Angeli and Jackie followed a basic rule in smart shopping: always think twice when jewel vendors approach you on a tourist spot.

It was probably too early in the game anyway to consider Richard's offer unless: a) your partner doesn't really like you or b) your partner wants to go home and would probably give you his/her bracelet and go to the tribe that will be having tribal council. That would have been ideal for Geneva and KC. But then again, this new twist has been incorporated to the challenges. Sooner or later some pair will find it harder to resist Richard's charms...I mean individual immunity bracelets for whatever reason. Maybe Richard can throw in a "cellphone" to sweeten the deal. On why would any cast away (CA) think Richard would give a cellphone on the first challenge is still a mystery.

Tala had flint but it was as good as just paper weight since the first several attempts did not catch fire. The tribe even resorted in going back to rubbing bamboo sticks. Some said the flint was too wet to begin with. It wasn't until the day after (Day 4) when Jackie proved to be the master of the flint and made a decent flame for Tala to work on.

Bulan may have had a string of bad luck but at least they got KC back. KC proved to be the fire expert as he again effortlessly got things burning by rubbing bamboo sticks. Kids, don't try this at home without adult supervision.

Then they also found oysters which is a good source of food. But just like last season, the CAs again are hypnotically driven to some crazy dancing which many have attributed to eating oysters. This time around, some of the CAs, used their shirts to fashion out ninja masks as the whole tribe danced in what some would call the Fil-Am version of the "shaggedy-shaggedy-sha-po-po".

Ms. Maribel and daughter Mara shared a rare mother and daughter moment in front of Bulan. Ms Maribel already accepted the fact that she wouldn't really stay long in the island. She just wanted her daughter to get in the game. Seeing Mara accept her mother's statements makes one wish that everyone could see the sacrifices parents make for their children.

This was touching as one would go out of his/her comfort zone to make another one happy. Unfortunately in the case of Geneva to KC, this proved to be a total disaster in every possible way. Which reminds us that some CAs don't exactly join to play the game and get a rude awakening when they come to the island. Infuriating for some viewers but this is the "reality" in local reality shows. Maybe the celebrities should have been enticed with a prize that includes a check with his name that will be given to a charity of his choice. One has to play for something so he/she be motivated to stay on the island.

But Ms Maribel's words are not set in stone so she may change her mind before tribal council. Alyssa is also on the chopping block since she looks ready to go home and hasn't really been on the good side of most of her tribemates. KC feels vulnerable without a partner and and has to continually showcase his fire making skills, charisma, and his male presence during challenges. With that, tribal council could be more interesting specially if this proves to be the event where Richard swears off and addresses the "outwhine" issue of some CAs. Mukhang mahaba ang gabi para sa tribung Bulan.
